About Us
Madikela means "Sunset" in Sotho, one of the most widely spoken languages in the Northern parts of South Africa.The founder of the company, Schantell Erasmus a South African, had the opportunity to live in Norway for almost 3 years. While learning to speak Norwegian she participated in the every day life, culture and customs of the country. She realized there is a growing interest for South Africa as a tourist destination. As tourism is a great passion of hers, she decided to pursue this opportunity and registered Madikela Tours on the 30th of March 2004 as a closed corporation.
Shortly after returning home to South Africa, she started with her qualifications as a Tour Guide. She is currently qualified to guide in Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West. She will continue on a part time basis with her studies to become a National Guide. Her qualification as a guide is on a National Qualification's Level 4 in Culture and Nature.
Her vision is to grow Madikela Tours into a successful company that provide their guest with a truly unforgettable experience of South Africa and its people. She believes in keeping it small and personal, and up to now, her clients left enriched with a new friend in South Africa.
Her long term goal is to make a difference in both her client's life's as well as in South Africa. She want to offer her clients the opportunity to get actively involved in community projects, wildlife & nature conservation. Whether it's by visiting one of the wildlife sanctuaries or empowering the local communities by supporting their trade business, she believes every bit helps. She also aims to get Madikela Tours involved with fund raising, community projects, education and development.
Rudolf Badenhorst is a Madikela Representative and National Guide. He has an outstanding amount of knowledge of the bushveld and history of South Africa. He will make sure that you enjoy every bit of your South African experience.
